Wholesale prices for hospitals increased 0.1% for the second straight month, according to preliminary April figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index. In April 2008, hospital wholesale prices fell 0.1%. For the 12-month period ended last month, the hospital PPI increased 2.4%, the preliminary numbers show, compared with an increase of 3.4% in the same period a year ago.
Wholesale physician-office prices also rose 0.1% in April after a 0.2% increase in the prior month. For April 2008, the index for physicians also fell 0.1%. For the 12-month period ended in April, the physician prices increased 2.1%. For the same period ended April 2008, wholesale physician-office prices increased 0.8%.
