Herb Kuhn, independent healthcare consultant and former deputy administrator of the CMS, will be joining the influential Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.
Kuhn, along with Robert Berenson, senior fellow at the Urban Institute, were both appointed as new members to the independent government body, which advises Congress on a range of care, cost and quality issues, including hospital and physician payment.
The Comptroller General is responsible for naming members to the 17-member panel.
The two new individuals chosen will bring impressive credentials and valuable experiences and insights to the commission, Gene Dodaro, acting comptroller general of the U.S. and the head of the Government Accountability Office, said in a written statement.
Five existing members were reappointed to the commission, including its chairman, Glenn Hackbarth.
Bruce Yarwood, president and CEO of American Health Care Association, also praised the newest appointments in a written statement. We look forward to working with Mr. Kuhn, Dr. Berenson and the entire commission to discuss issues to ensure quality care for our nations frail, elderly and disabled, Yarwood said.
