Sisters of Mercy Health System, Chesterfield, Mo., and Catholic Health Initiatives, Denver, said they have signed a letter of intent to explore the sale of CHIs 357-bed St. Johns Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., to Sisters of Mercy. No terms were disclosed. The Roman Catholic systems plan to conduct due diligence while negotiating a definitive agreement over the next several months. The sponsorship transfer also is subject to regulatory approvals.
St. Johns is CHIs only hospital in Missouri, among the 60 in its portfolio. Sisters of Mercy operates seven hospitals in Missouri among its 17 hospitals.
