The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality is asking the Office of Management and Budget to approve its project to develop a tool set aimed at helping providers implement electronic prescribing systems.
The federal agency contracted with RAND Corp. to develop the tool set in a project announced last year through the AHRQs Accelerating Change and Transformation in Organizations and Networks, or ACTION, program. In a notice published in the Federal Register, the AHRQ said that the tool set would serve as a how to guide for various organizations seeking to implement e-prescribing.
The project with RAND also will test the tool sets usability and usefulness through a pilot with six providers that use the tool set as they implement e-prescribing for the first time. AHRQ researchers will conduct interviews and surveys of the providers and observations of the work processes to determine whether the tool set was helpful. The project with RAND runs through Jan. 31, 2010.
