Alan Kaplan, M.D., has been named the new vice president and chief medical officer of the Des Moines-based Iowa Health System. Kaplan, 49, starts June 1, and he replaces Kent Bottles, M.D., who left in April 2008. In his new position, Kaplan will lead efforts to create and coordinate physician-support activities and clinical resource-management initiatives, a news release said. He will also serve as president of the Iowa Health Physicians, an affiliated group practice with 210 doctors. Most recently, Kaplan worked as vice president of operations and CMO for Edward Health Services Corp. in Naperville, Ill.
