University Medical Center, Louisville, Ky., named Mark Pfeifer, M.D., to the newly created position of chief medical officer.
Pfeifer will facilitate communication among department chairs, chiefs of service, attending staff, house staff and administration for the medical center, which includes University of Louisville (Ky.) Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center. He currently serves as the V.V. Cooke Endowed Chair in Medicine and professor in the department of medicine at the University of Louisville. In addition, Pfeifer has served as interim dean in the school of medicine and as vice dean/associate vice president for the university. He also was chief of staff for the hospital.
The 325-bed hospital and cancer center are part of the University of Louisville Health Care medical complex, which also includes University Physicians Associates and the Kentucky Lions Eye Center.
