A Louisiana lawmaker wants the state to pay the legal bills of a physician accused of killing patients in a New Orleans hospital in the days after Hurricane Katrina.
Former Attorney General Charles Foti accused Anna Pou of illegally euthanizing patients at Memorial Hospital in 2005. Pou fought the allegations and was never indicted.
A bill by Rep. Patrick Connick, R-Marrero, would send nearly $145,000 to Pou's legal defense fund. That was the recommendation last month from the state's Attorney Fee Review Board
Lawmakers could act on the recommendation after their session begins April 27.
