The Veterans Affairs Department is investigating one of its South Carolina hospitals, where the director is retiring.
VA news secretary Katie Roberts told The Post and Courier of Charleston on Thursday the agency is investigating the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston.
Roberts says the agency is looking into management practices. She said she could not elaborate until the investigation is completed.
A hospital spokeswoman said director John Barilich is retiring April 24 and is on leave now. The 60-year-old Barilich had taken over in 2006.
The spokeswoman said the associate director at the Augusta, Ga., facility, John Goldman, will take over as acting director in Charleston.
