Ronald Ott has been hired as the president of the Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, Pa., which is part of the four-hospital Excela Health system also based in Greensburg. It is a new position that was created with Excelas purchase of the former Mercy Jeannette (Pa.) Hospital last year, which became an extension of the Westmoreland facility and was renamed Westmoreland Hospital at Jeannette.
Ott, 56, had worked at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center McKeesport (Pa.) for more than 30 years and had been its president since 1991. He was hired in 1971 by McKeesport Hospitalwhich merged with the UPMC system in April 1998and became assistant administrator and later associate executive director before being named president.
The hospital won the Joint Commission- and National Quality Forum-sponsored John M. Eisenberg Award for Patient Safety and Quality in 2004. That same year, the hospitals programs to help reduce youth smoking helped it win the Modern Healthcare Spirit of Excellence community award.
