Former HHS official John Loonsk, M.D., has been hired by CGI Federal, a Fairfax, Va.-based operating subsidiary of CGI Group, as its vice president and chief medical officer.
Loonsk, 50, will lead CGIs healthcare strategy direction as the company expands its healthcare practice, according to a statement released by the company. Previously, he served as director for interoperability and standards within HHS Office of the National Coordinator. In that capacity, Loonsk worked with leadership across both the government and commercial healthcare sectors to help create a standards-based, deployable healthcare IT strategy.
Prior to HHS, Loonsk served as the associate director for informatics and director of the Information Resources Management Office for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dr. Loonsk has been at the forefront of innovation in healthcare and information technology, said Cheryl Campbell, vice president-national health industry at CGI, in a written statement. His background and experience will help CGI clients make the best use of new technologies for improved healthcare delivery to citizens.
