Ohio University, Athens, has agreed to pay $90,000 to two fired network administrators to settle a lawsuit alleging it withheld public records linked to a computer breach investigation.
Under the settlement, Tom Reid and Todd Acheson will not seek damages. They were fired in July 2006, months after the discovery of computer breaches that exposed 173,000 files. The files contained Social Security numbers, medical records and personal information.
The university's interim legal affairs director, John Biancamano, said it likely was too cautious when it redacted a report by a consultant investigating the breaches. The university also released a new version of the report under the agreement.
