Mark Merrill, president of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and executive vice president of Texas Health Resources, will be leaving his posts in the Lone Star State to become president and CEO of Valley Health System.
Valley Health is a five-hospital, not-for-profit regional healthcare system serving a population of 450,000 in northwest Virginia and eastern West Virginia. Merrill, 55, will be replacing Michael Halseth, Valley Healths current president and CEO, who will retire in June, but will continue to be affiliated with Valley Health in a consulting role until the end of 2009.
Mark has been a key contributor to the Texas Health system for more than 14 years, said Steve Hanson, senior executive vice president for system alignment and performance at Texas Health in a written statement.
Merrill in 2005 had assumed the role of executive vice president for Texas Health Resources, the parent organization of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. He had served as the hospitals president since 1995.
I am looking forward to continuing the good work started by Mike Halseth, and I appreciate the acknowledgement of the Valley Health Board of Directors, administration and leadership in my ability to assume the role of President and CEO, Merrill said in a written statement.
Merrill will leave for his new duties at Valley Health System within the next 60 days.
