Two Senate committees scheduled hearings with Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, the White Houses pick to usher in broad initiatives to reshape the U.S. healthcare system.
The Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, led by the ailing Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), will meet with President Barack Obamas HHS secretary-designate on March 31. Its unclear whether the senator will chair the hearing.
And the Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over the appointment, will convene a hearing on April 2.
The hearings are the first formal meetings Sebelius will have as secretary-designate in front of members of Congress, even though the governor has recently made several visits to the Capitol and met with dozens of senators and staffers.
