Wholesale prices for hospitals rose 0.6% in February, in line with Januarys 0.5% increase, the Bureau of Labor Statistics producer price index shows. The figures are preliminary. Last months gain was higher than the 0.1% increase for the same month in 2008. For the 12 months that ended in February, the hospital index climbed 2.2% compared with the 3.2% increase reported for the prior year.
Physician wholesale prices also rose 0.7% last month compared with Januarys 0.3% increase. In February 2008, the physician producer price index was flat. For the year that ended last month, the physician index increased 1.8% compared with 0.8% the prior year.
The index measures the average change in prices received by domestic producers of goods and services.
