Can you name what the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and other healthcare providers have in common with AIG, Exxon Mobil Corp. and Halliburton Co., or such celebrities as Don King, Lee Iacocca and Paris Hilton? And no, its not Kevin Bacon.
Instead, its Michael Sitrick. Or, more specifically, Sitrick and Co., the public relations firm that Sitrick established in 1989, and of which he serves as chairman and CEO. With offices in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Silicon Valley, the companys client roster is as long as it is diverse. Consider the range of interests and industries just by looking at some clients whose names begin with the letters A through D: Baby Guess, Barneys of New York, Bills Dollar Store, the city of Beverly Hills, Calif., Chevron, Dabney Coleman, Del Taco, Dow Corning, the Daniel Pearl Foundation and David Duchovny.
I believe their entertainment practice is a small book of business, but generates a lot of publicity, says Paul Wood, a UPMC spokesman. Wood says the system has retained Sitrick and Co. for years, and the firm will help UPMC publicize its new $625 million Childrens Hospital in Lawrenceville, Pa., set to open in early May.
By retaining Sitrick, were able to tap into their expertise, and they may have contacts we dont have, Wood says.
UPMC will undoubtedly pay a handsome price for those services. Wood says The health system doesnt discuss details of its vendor contracts, but various reports on Sitrick and Co.s Web site show that the company has charged some clients as much as $695 per hour.
