AcuityHealthcare, Austin, Texas, said it has signed a letter of intent to purchase 26-bed Wichita (Kan.) Specialty Hospital, a long-term acute-care hospital, from Fundamental Long Term Care Holdings, Sparks, Md. Terms were not disclosed. The deal does not require any regulatory approvals and is expected to close by March 1, said Ed Cooper Jr., president and chief executive officer of AcuityHealthcare. The company plans to build an expanded replacement LTAC that would be located more centrally relative to the general acute-care hospitals in Wichita, Cooper said.
Completing the deal would give management-owned AcuityHealthcare five owned LTACs and expand its operations to a sixth state; the company also has management-services contracts at another seven LTACs.
