The Kanawha-Charleston (W.Va.) Health Department is warning people who received flu shots over a three-month period to monitor their credit reports following the arrest of a former employee on a computer fraud charge.
The health department said it is sending letters to about 11,000 people who received shots from the department between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2008. The letters say that personal information, including Social Security numbers, may have been compromised.
The department said information will be included on how patients can place fraud alerts on their credit files.
A sheriff's department statement says 24-year-old Jameelah Jossiah, South Charleston, W.Va., has been charged with one count of computer fraud. She was a temporary worker assigned to perform medical billing for flu shots.
