Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry has approved expanding Insure Oklahoma, the 2004 healthcare initiative he created to help small businesses purchase health insurance for their employees. Henry signed emergency rules that will increase the pool of eligible businesses by raising eligibility limits to businesses with up to 99 employees, up from an earlier limit of businesses with up to 50 employees.
Ultimately, that limit will be for up to 250 workers. Low-income, full-time college students will also be able to participate in the program. The state Legislature approved the expansion in 2007, but it did not receive the necessary federal approval from the CMS until this month, according to a spokesman in Henrys office.
