Greenville (S.C.) Hospital System University Medical Center has agreed to pay $45 million to buy a 50% stake in 88-bed Palmetto Health Baptist Easley (S.C.) hospital, which is owned by Palmetto Health, Columbia, S.C., according to the two systems.
Greenville Hospital System and Palmetto Health, both not-for-profits, will form a 50-50 joint venture to operate the hospital by means of a new 501(c)(3) organization. The new organization will have an eight-member board that will include community representatives.
The Easley hospital, located about 13 miles west of Greenville, will benefit from integration with the Greenville system and its 380-physician network, the systems said. The Easley hospitals chief operating officer, Roddey Gettys III, 62, will become chief executive officer of the new joint venture.
