David Hunt, M.D., is serving as interim director in the Office of Health Information Technology Adoption within HHS Office of the National Coordinator. Hunt also will retain his role as chief medical officer for the ONC while HHS searches for a replacement to lead the adoption office, according to a spokeswoman. The position was vacated by Karen Bell, M.D.,who is now senior vice president of health information technology services for Waltham, Mass.-based Masspro, that states Medicare quality improvement organization. Hunt, 50, has served within HHS for several years, leading the Surgical Care Improvement Partnership and Medicare Patient Safety Monitoring System programs for the CMS, and was a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Howard University.
