Ronald Levy, former president and chief executive officer of SSM Health Cares St. Louis operations, was named to head up the Missouri Social Services Department, which oversees the states Medicaid program, MO HealthNet. Gov.-elect Jay Nixon announced the nomination Dec. 30, 2008, although the appointment is still subject to approval by the Missouri Senate. Nixon spokesman Sam Murphey said one of Levys first goals upon confirmation will be expanding medical coverage for the states children. Nixon takes office Jan. 12. Levy, 58, ended a three-decade career with SSM when he retired last year, although he remained a senior executive consultant for the St. Louis-based system until Dec. 31, 2008. He is married to Susan Nestor Levy, who is chief advocacy officer at Ascension Health.
