Regarding the article Joint Commission outlines hospital of the future :
While this is a wonderful idea, I will not hold my breath. As a registered nurse with nearly 32 years of experience and a recent patient in a magnet facility, I am not impressed with the ability of the Joint Commission to enforce their current guidelines, much less anything more stringent. Patient-centered care was not much in evidence when I was told that I could not receive post-op pain medication because it was against hospital policy due to too frequent use of Narcan. The Joint Commission should get their current standards in order before they worry about the hospital of the future.
