The Joint Commission appointed five healthcare leaders to its 29-member board of commissioners. The new commissioners include David Bronson, a general internist and chairman of the Medicine Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation; Benjamin Chu, a regional president of Kaiser Permanente Southern California; T. Anthony Denton, senior associate director and chief operating officer of the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers, Ann Arbor; Mary Anne McCaffree, a pediatrician from Oklahoma City and a member of the American Medical Associations board of trustees; and Mary McGrath, a professor of surgery in the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of California at San Francisco.
Beginning in January 2009, David Whistona practicing oral and maxillofacial surgeon from Falls Church, Va.will serve as chairman of the Joint Commissions board of commissioners, and Isabel Hoverman, an Austin, Texas-based internal medicine physician, will serve as vice chairwoman. -- by Jessica Zigmond
