The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology named three new members to its board of trustees.
Bruce Taffel, a physician who is vice president and chief medical officer of Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Shared Health, also serves on the board of the National Alliance for Health Information Technology. Meighan Girgus, executive vice president of healthcare markets for the American Heart Association, has served on CCHITs personal health-record advisory task force and as an expert panel member for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Wes Rishel, vice president and analyst with Gartner's healthcare provider research practice, has served previously on CCHITs board of commissioners and was founding technical chairman of Health Level 7.
Chicago-based CCHIT also announced starting next month it will take submissions from the healthcare industry for expanding the scope of its certification programs in a plan that will be finalized early next year.
