North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System entered into exclusive negotiations with Caritas Health System, which includes Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica, N.Y., and St. Johns Queens Hospital, Elmhurst, N.Y., said North Shore-LIJ spokesman Terence Lynam.
North Shore-LIJ, a 10-hospital system based in Great Neck, N.Y., agreed to the talks as one option to expand its presence in New Yorks borough of Queens, he said. The prospective partners discussions include due diligence and planning though no details as to what type of deal may emerge were released, Lynam said. Renovations to Caritas two hospitals or a replacement facility are among the possibilities. North Short-LIJ has also submitted a certificate of need to expand its 199-bed Forest Hills (N.Y.) Hospital. -- by Melanie Evans
