While experiencing high fever, headache, extreme tiredness, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, and possibly diarrhea and vomiting arent on everyones wish list, to some its preferable to a day at work.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those are common symptoms for the flu. And, according to a recent Consumer Reports poll, 48% of U.S. adults arent planning to get a flu shot this winter and, of those, 5% said they would rather get the flu than go to work.
The telephone survey of 2,011 adults was conducted last month, and the top excuses given for not getting a shot were its better to build natural immunities, 67%; and they never get sick anyway, 45%.
Besides getting flu shots, other methods the respondents said they use to prevent winter illness include: Using paper towels to open bathroom doors, 42%; avoiding large crowds, 29%; avoiding travel on planes, trains and buses, 23%; and avoiding shaking hands, 18%.
