Stephen Laverty, the embattled president and chief executive officer of three-hospital Northeast Health System in Beverly, Mass., has tendered his resignation, according to a news release.
The healthcare system has tapped retired hospital board chairman Henry Ramini, an obstetrician, to act as interim CEO effective immediately. The board has already launched a search for Lavertys replacement.
While credited with growing the hospitals physician staff and improving its clinical quality and financial standing during his eight-year tenure, Lavertys time with the healthcare provider was also marked by conflict with the systems nursing and physician staffs. In April, Northeast Health System doctors took a vote of no confidence in the former CEO, and in October, nurses there did the same. -- by Shawn Rhea
