Zachary (La.) Police have booked a Denham Springs, La., woman on 342 counts of obtaining prescription drugs by fraud.
Police Capt. David McDavid said the investigation and arrest of 36-year-old Shontel Hukins represents the largest drug fraud case in the department's history. McDavid said Hukins was a medical assistant at a Zachary doctor's clinic until she abruptly resigned in September.
The doctor hired a computer expert to audit Hukins' computer and found numerous prescriptions that were generated without accessing a patient's chart and that were later deleted.
McDavid said the prescriptions and refills were issued to Hukins and a boyfriend and were processed at numerous pharmacies in Louisiana.
