The two general medical hospitals in Texarkana, Texas, have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to consolidate operations under one community health system that would be owned by Christus Health.
The 312-bed Christus St. Michael Health System and the 163-bed Wadley Regional Medical Center would be acquired for an undisclosed sum by Christus Health, Irving, Texas, according to a news release from the three organizations. The hospitals have a history of collaboration, including joint projects like the LifeNet Ambulance service and PET Imaging, the news release said.
Officials at the two not-for-profit Texarkana hospitals plan to conduct due diligence in the next few months to develop a final agreement. One of the key issues to be resolved is determining how to coordinate services between the separate hospital campuses while meeting patient needs, according to the news release.
