Lori Heim, M.D. has been chosen president-elect of the Leawood, Kan.-based American Academy of Family Physicians. Heim, 53, came to the position after Ted Epperly, M.D. became president of the AAFP. Previously, Heim served as a member of the AAFP Board of Directors. As the president-elect, Heim will advocate on behalf of physicians and patients to inspire positive change in the U.S. healthcare system. Heim received her bachelors degree from Portland State University then entered the Air Force and received her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
