Brett Gosney, 49, chief executive officer of the Animas Surgical Hospital in Durango, Colo., took over as president of Physicians Hospitals of America, a Sioux Falls, S.D.-based trade group that represents physician-owned hospitals, during the groups eighth-annual conference held Oct. 2-4 in Palm Springs, Calif.
Michael Russell, M.D., 43, an orthopedic surgeon from Texas Spine & Joint Hospital in Tyler, Texas, was named president-elect.
Also elected were new board members Thomas Bertuccini, M.D., a neurosurgeon with the Lafayette (La.) Surgical Specialty Hospital; Hooman Sedighi, M.D., president of GlobalRehab hospitals in Dallas and Fort Worth; and Jeffrey Sayer, president and chief financial officer of Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
The group has 167 facility members and about 80 corporate members, said PHA Executive Director Molly Sandvig. More than 400 people attended the conference. Harvard Business School healthcare researcher Regina Herzlinger, whom Modern Healthcare readers voted the 96th most-powerful person in healthcare in 2007, was the keynote speaker. -- by Andis Robeznieks
