In response to Matthew DoBias' Bailout bill includes mental-health parity":
As a physician executive involved with benefits, I am concerned with such an action of monumental proportions being included in such a funding bill. Did the business group on health address any of this?
I want the mentally ill to receive the best of care. Those of us in emergency medicine who have treated mental illness for years, 25 in my case, know that much of the mental illness is related to addiction. Addiction is related to choice. Excuses are rampant for the choices of addiction. Putting individuals' poor choices on the par of cancer is poorly thought out. In our benefit package, an Employee Retirement Income Security Act plan, we have addressed choices. Does this mean that our efforts are wiped out by this action?
