Regarding the bailout plan:
Why do I not feel good about this? I should, or so the pundits will try to tell me. But when will the Congress bail out the cash-strapped, middle-class family about to lose their home? How about a bottom-up plan? The problem is so very deep-seated that I wonder how these two bodies could possibly come up with any plan that will, first, stabilize the financial markets and, second, fix the problems that got us into this mess?
I feel that the problems we should have solved or at least addressed will be ones that will resurface again as the cash is doled out. Is there adequate oversight on this historic dole? Is there language in this bill that defines what is right and what is not right, and the consequences for bad behavior? Or are we going to have to play partisan politics after Jan. 20, 2009, and appoint special investigators after we see that we really should have written the bill better and that we should have taken more time to write it well?
