Laura Kolkman, the president of Mosaica Partners, a St. Petersburg, Fla.-based consulting firm specializing in health information organizations, has been named chairwoman of the Healthcare Information Exchange Steering Committee of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Chicago.
The one-year term began July 1. The steering committee leads activities by HIMSS on issues involving healthcare information exchange, including technology, interoperability, standards use and harmonization, and supports HIMSS efforts at the local, state and national levels.
According to biographical information on her LinkedIn social network page, Kolkman, 54, has a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Michigan and a masters degree in computer science from Western Michigan University. She previously served as vice president and chief information officer for PharmMerica Corp., a pharmaceutical supplier to long-term-care facilities, and executive positions with drugmakers Pharmacia and Upjohn Co. She has also served as a vice president of information technology for northern Europe for Arrow Technology, a supplier of products and services for the electronics and computer industries. She also has been a director of Consulting Intelligence, a firm specializing in advising clients about using consultants.
