Researchers looking for hospital data can use a new emergency department query tool on FloridaHealthFinder.gov, the state Agency for Health Care Administration announced.
The tool will allow professionals to search emergency department data by principal diagnosis, principal procedure codes and reason for patient visit. The results will show total visits, total charges and average charges, and can be returned through various demographics such as age, discharge, race and sex. The state said that it hopes the tool will promote pricing and service transparency in addition to helping researchers evaluate whether patients are being treated in the right settings.
Our emergency rooms are getting stretched to the limits, and in order to preserve them for true emergencies we want to help hospitals and researchers evaluate the demand and see if there are other more appropriate settings for treating patients, agency Secretary Holly Benson said in a written statement.
The Web site also allows consumers to compare hospitals, insurance plans, nursing homes and prescription drug prices.
