Evanston (Ill.) Northwestern Healthcare has reached a definitive agreement to acquire 229-bed Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie, Ill.
The parties announced in May that they had signed a letter of intent toward a deal that would add the Skokie facility to Evanston Northwestern, a three-campus system with 580 beds in Chicagos northern suburbs. The transactionexpected to close by year-end, according to a news releaseremains subject to federal antitrust scrutiny and approval by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board.
Evanston Northwestern plans to change its name this fall to reflect a parting of ways with Northwestern University, its academic partner for more than 70 years. Earlier this week the system announced a new academic affiliation with the University of Chicagos Pritzker School of Medicine. -- by Gregg Blesch
