Mike Labedz has been named president and chief executive officer of healthcare information technology systems developer HealthPort, Alpharetta, Ga.
Labedz, 42, replaces Frank Murphy as president and CEO; Murphy will leave the company to pursue another executive leadership position, according to a news release. Labedz was president of Companion Technologies, Columbia, S.C., in 2007 when it merged with Smart Document Solutions of Alpharetta, to create the renamed company, HealthPort. Companion had been purchased from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina in 2006 by venture capital firms Thurston Group, Chicago, and ABRY Partners, Boston. Labedz also serves as president of Thurston Group, HealthPort's parent company.
HealthPort products and services include offerings in revenue-cycle management, electronic health-record systems, practice management, electronic-document management, document conversion and storage, release-of-information and healthcare consulting.
