Is this a surprise to anybody in the business? Almost as much money as the cost of Iraq has been lost on electronic health records, computerized physician order entry and trying to prevent medication errors.
One-twentieth of the cost of Iraq would reduce 20% of the cost of healthcare by installing proven systems that reduce nosocomial infections, mistakes in labor and delivery and operating room mistakes.
This is not opinion. Every payer has data to support this.
Watch out. Pennsylvania (Gov. Edward Rendell) may introduce this as a way to finance universal health insurance.
