John Bennett Jr., M.D. will become president and chief executive officer on July 1 of Capital District Physicians Health Plan, Albany, N.Y., a physician-founded health plan with more than 400,000 members. Bennett, 54, is currently chairman of the board, which he will relinquish, and replaces William Cromie, M.D., who announced in March that he will be stepping down for health reasons. Bennett has been chairman since 2003. He served as vice chairman and has been a member of the board since 1996. A practicing cardiologist in the Albany area since 1983, Bennett currently practices with Albany Associates in Cardiology, a division of Prime Care Physicians, and is chief of the division of cardiology at 165-bed Albany Memorial Hospital. He has served as interim CEO of Prime Care since November 2007.
