In response to Matthew DoBias' "12 areas selected for EHR incentive program":
Five-year pilot study? Those guys are moving far slower than I think the American public will accept. People are dying because of physicians not having full access to medical records, including images. I think five months would be more like it. And the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996everyone seems to have forgotten it was to make the records more portable and accessible rather than less.
While I am the last to want lawyers anywhere near our health system, one way to get our medical professionals to demand electronic medical records is to start blaming folks for making mistakes that could have been avoided if they had a full medical record available.
How stupid is it to quiz a guy on a stretcher in an emergency room on his medical history when the corner 7-Eleven can tell the fellow's financial health in two seconds. Lets see, that is two loaves of bread and a quart of milktell me how much you have in the bank and when you last went to work?
