Regarding CMS outlines Medicare
hospice patients rights:
My mother recently passed away from cancer and was receiving hospice care. She did not receive effective pain relief while under hospice care.
Ive read that patients will soon be entitled to participate in their treatment, receive effective pain management, have the right to refuse treatment and to choose their own physician. Im not so sure some of this isnt already in practice, but my real question is: Why wait for hospice care? Perhaps, if they could participate in their treatment and have effective pain management, they could tolerate chemotherapy and other forms of treatment and not choose what boils down to assisted suicide under hospice care just to relieve their pain.
