AmeriChoice, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, Minnetonka, Minn., has completed its acquisition of Unison Health Plans. The combined organization has more than 2 million members in government-sponsored health plans in 21 states and the District of Columbia.
Pittsburgh-based Unison has a network of 28,000 providers and nearly 1,000 employees. Current Unison management and staff will remain in place, and the company will operate under its current name as a subsidiary of AmeriChoice, officials said. Purchase price and other financial terms of the all-cash transaction were not disclosed.
We are looking forward to working with the management and staff of Unison, the many fine physicians, hospitals and other healthcare professionals affiliated with the company and the states it serves to deliver quality health care services to its members, Rick Jelinek, chief executive officer of AmeriChoice, said in a written statement. -- by Rebecca Vesely
