Neil Hutcher, M.D., was elected chairman of the board of directors for the Surgical Review Corp., a not-for-profit that administers the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence program. He replaces Walter Pories, M.D., whose term expired June 1.
Hutcher, who has a private bariatric surgery practice in Richmond, Va., is past president of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, a news release said.
Also elected were five new board members. They are: Robin Blackstone, M.D., medical director of the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Bariatric Center; Don Bradley, M.D., chief medical officer and senior vice president for healthcare at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina; Morgan Downey, executive vice president of the Obesity Society, a scientific group committed to encouraging research on the causes and treatment of obesity; Jim Fivecoat, the retirement plans manager for Michelin North America and chairman of the board for the Obesity Action Coalition; and Scott Shikora, M.D., president-elect of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and professor of surgery at Tufts-New England Medical Center.
