Humana has completed its purchase of OSF HealthPlans, a provider-owned managed care plan in Peoria, Ill.
The Louisville, Ky.-based insurer purchased the health plan for $90.5 million from OSF Saint Francis, a private not-for-profit Catholic health system with five acute-care hospitals in Illinois and one in Michigan. The health plan currently has 78,000 enrollees.
Michael Kasper, president of Humanas Illinois market, said in a written statement that the acquisition broadens our ability to serve multi-location employers in Illinois and strengthens Humanas statewide provider networks, creating a strong tie to the premier health system in the regionOSF Healthcare System. -- by Rebecca Vesely
