Don Avery will become president and chief executive officer of Dublin, Ga.-based Fairview Park Hospital, owned by HCA, effective later this month, officials announced.
Avery, 51, currently is CEO of the 100-bed Hughston Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, Columbus, Ga., which was purchased by Columbus Regional Healthcare System from HCA in April. While the new owners asked Avery to remain with the hospital, he decided to continue as part of the HCA organization, according to a news release.
That acquisition is expected to be completed by June 30. Mike Hoskins, Hughston Orthopedics chief operating officer and chief financial officer will manage daily operations, and Michelle Breitfelder, chief nursing officer, will oversee patient-care functions, the hospital said.
Avery, a former U.S. Air Force captain, has held executive positions with several healthcare systems and holds a masters degree in business administration and hospital administration from the University of Florida, and a bachelors degree in management from the Air Force Academy. -- by Jean DerGurahian
