Gov. Charlie Crist signed into law a plan to allow the states nearly 4 million uninsured residents to purchase bare-bones coverage for $150 a month. The state-negotiated offering includes coverage for some preventive care and limited emergency room treatment but not for chronic illness or major procedures. The package also would add about 38,000 children to the State Childrens Health Insurance Program and calls for a new, market-based program to help businesses with 50 or fewer employees provide more affordable benefits to their workers.
