Centura Health, Englewood, Colo., named Gary Campbell to succeed Gregory Burfitt as president and chief executive officer. Campbell, 54, is expected to join 12-hospital Centura on July 7 from Catholic Health Initiatives, Denver, where he is senior vice president of operations and group executive officer. Centura is a joint operating agreement between Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives and Adventist Health System, Winter Park, Fla.
Prior to joining Centura, Campbell worked with a Carmel, Ind.-based healthcare consulting firm. He was executive vice president of a Cincinnati health system, now Catholic Healthcare Partners, from 1993 to 2000.
Centura terminated Burfitts contract on Dec. 5, 2007, citing differences in management philosophy. Arlen Reynolds, the systems chief operating officer, was named Centuras interim CEO. Burfitt succeeded Joseph Swedish in September 2005 after Swedish stepped down to head Trinity Health, Novi, Michigan. -- by Melanie Evans
