Robert Wiebe, M.D., has been named senior vice president and chief medical officer of Catholic Healthcare West, starting in mid-May.
Wiebe replaces George Bo-Linn, who left CHW on Feb. 1 after nine years in a long-planned departure.
Wiebe will lead clinical- and patient-care services, including quality, patient safety, risk services and physician leadership, throughout the San Francisco-based systems 38 acute-care hospitals in Arizona, California and Nevada. He will also play a key role in the full implementation of CHWs clinical information systems.
Wiebe was with the Veterans Health Administration for more than 22 years. Most recently, he was director of the Veterans Integrated Service Network 21 in San Francisco, overseeing six healthcare systems in California, Nevada, Hawaii and the Pacific region.
His immense leadership experience, entrepreneurial spirit and passion for excellence will further build on our mission of delivering excellent care to the people and communities we serve, Lloyd Dean, CHW president and chief executive officer said in a written statement.
