Three health insurers are the first to receive endorsement and certification from Bridges to Excellence, a prominent not-for-profit quality-improvement coalition.
Aetna, Cigna Corp. and CareFirst Blue Cross and Blue Shield have earned the designations that aim to help employers, physicians and consumers better understand how health plans are implementing Bridges to Excellence quality initiatives and recognizing and rewarding doctors for delivering safe, timely and effective care.
Aetna and Cigna received Bridges to Excellence certification for multiple sites nationwide. CareFirst is the first health plan to be awarded with Bridges to Excellences incentive and reward program endorsement. More than 15 health plans are licensees of Bridges to Excellence and are incorporating aspects of the program into their own pay-for-performance incentives.
These designations will be part of the critical information we use when selecting a health plan, Charles Montreuil, vice president of corporate human resources at the travel-and-hospitality firm Carlson Cos. and Bridges to Excellence president and board chairman, said in a written statement. -- by Rebecca Vesely
