Maureen Zehntner has been named chief executive officer of University of California at Irvine Medical Center in Orange, Calif., and associate vice chancellor for medical center affairs.
Zehntner, 59, is a registered nurse and has served as interim chief executive officer of the 352-bed hospital since 2005. She has been with UC Irvine for nearly 13 years, working first as chief operating officer. She was previously COO at St. Joseph Hospital, Orange.
After an exhaustive national search, we concluded that the best candidate was already in our midst, said David Bailey, vice chancellor for health affairs at UC Irvine, in a written statement.
Zehntner will earn an annual base salary of $555,000, as well as senior management benefits, the university said. Among her duties, she will direct the completion of the universitys new hospital, which is expected to open in 2009, and additional planned renovations over the next three years. -- by Rebecca Vesely
